Corporate Rivals Unite Around Preservation of Lighthouse

In a round of emails and several hour long conference calls the Presidents of Tuna Point Lighthouse Inc., Maunabo Development Committee and the Patronato Punta Tuna Corporation came to an agreement that even thought they are all rivals in the GSA bid for possession of the Point Tuna Lighthouse, that they would unite forces against other groups having profit based plans for the property as opposed to restoration based plans.

Maunabo, Puerto Rico (PRWEB) August 26, 2006 -- “The first goal is to stop the decay and vandalism occurring at the lighthouse every day”, said George Van Parys, President of Tuna Point Lighthouse Inc.

“The lighthouse is falling apart and being taken apart, it must be stopped, reversed, and the site restored. It can then be transformed in to a place where education on the historical significance of lighthouses, and this one in particular, can occur.” Dr. Pedro M. Torres-Morales Chairmen of the Maunabo Development Committee said. “It is crucial that any group involved with the lighthouse involve the community of Maunabo in any site plans. To the town, this is more than a lighthouse, it is more like a monument to the towns history."

It is crucial that any group involved with the lighthouse involve the community of Maunabo in any site plans. To the town, this is more than a lighthouse, it is more like a monument to the towns history.

This area is a key area for education on ecosystems and is immediately adjacent to the lighthouse.

We accept that we all have our own thoughts on what would be best in the public interest for the lighthouse. Our common goal is to preserve and protect this lighthouse, not convert it into some type of beach resort as some groups are rumored to be contemplating

The interesting part of all these discussions is that the lighthouse is not yet available as a GSA disposal Property.

“It could be 2 months away or 10 years away, we just don’t know, but we want to be ready” Said George Van Parys of Tuna Point Lighthouse Inc. Mr. Van Parys is also President of the giant Internet boat parts distribution company Boatfix Inc. better known as Boatfix.com and Vice President of one of the largest marine Internet forums Boatered Inc.
