AudienceCentral today announced that Marathon Oil Company has selected its PIER (Public Information and Emergency Response) system in support of the Company's hurricane preparedness strategy. Marathon plans to use PIER as one of the key methods to communicate with employees in the event of an evacuation due to a hurricane. Marathon, headquartered in Houston, owns seven refineries in the US, two of which are in hurricane-prone areas in Garyville, Louisiana, (west of New Orleans) and Texas City, Texas (near Galveston).

The March/April 2006 issue of Continuity Insights magazine reported the results of the 2006 KPMG/Continuity Insights Business Continuity Management Benchmarking Study. When asked "What do you think is the weakest link in your continuity strategy, planning and recovery efforts?" the 935 respondents most commonly cited "people risks" as the number one concern. One of the primary "people risks" is employees not being available where and when needed.
