Online Sales Fueled by Pluto Ruling
Online product demand surges for Pluto merchandise after the International Astronomical Union (IAU) declares Pluto no longer a planet.
Phoenix, AZ (PRWEB) August 28, 2006 -- The decision to "demote" Pluto to a dwarf planet has fueled a surge for Pluto-related merchandise.
After the International Astronomical Union (IAU) declared Pluto a dwarf planet at their convention in Prague on August 24, a mix of outrage and sympathy has arisen for Pluto. Online merchandise sellers are seeing the rewards.
Preserve Planet Pluto (http://preservepluto.com) offers an editorial comment of "Save Pluto" and offers a variety of designs that reflect public opinion. Sales of "Size Doesn't Matter: Save Pluto" T-Shirts and "We Love Planet Pluto" bumper stickers have been brisk.
"The Pluto decision has strong sentimental value, the public seems to cherish Pluto since its discovery in 1930 by Clyde Tombaugh. However, the results could have gone either way with the addition of dozens of planets. The Pluto situation has an election-year feel to it." said Best Tees graphic artist Phaz.
Dozens of websites have sprung up in response to the ruling.
The decision to re-classify Pluto is partly controversial because only 300 of the 2500 delegates at the convention participated in the vote. A number of other planetary definitions were also considered by scientists, including a plan to increase the number of the planets in our solar system to 12.
