In order to meet compliance regulations, better secure enterprise data and to create data consistency across disparate systems, organizations are increasingly implementing data governance, master data management and other centralized data solutions to manage and secure data. These organizations are discovering that the first step in implementing these projects is to pinpoint all the locations of crucial data and create an enterprise data map. Unfortunately, this discovery and mapping process can be very manual and therefore time-consuming, often making the planned project cost prohibitive.

The survey, which is available at http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.asp?u=399042309872, includes the following questions:

  •     Do you know everywhere sensitive data in your company is located?
  •     How does your organization currently discover the majority of the data relationships between systems?
  •     If asked by a governmental or regulatory organization to produce a complete and accurate data map of your enterprise today, could your organization comply with the request?

Everyone who completes the survey by 5 p.m. PT on Friday, September 15, 2006, will be entered into a drawing for an Apple iPod Nano. The drawing will take place on Monday, September 18, 2006, and the winner will be notified via email.

Journalists and industry analysts wishing to receive results of the survey are welcome to contact.
