UK’s The Telegraph Group Makes News in Selecting DataCore and VMware for a New Virtual Infrastructure

DataCore Software today announced that one of the United Kingdom's most prestigious media conglomerates -- the Telegraph Group -- has chosen DataCore Software along with VMware to provide a virtual infrastructure for the company and its operating units. DataCore Software, through its flagship SANsymphony(TM) solution, is now delivering data storage virtualization to this large British media group. DataCore partner, London-based virtual infrastructure specialist, Transam Microsystems, analyzed the group's requirements, introduced it to virtual storage and recommended and implemented a DataCore SANsymphony-based solution.

FORT LAUDERDALE, FL and LONDON (PRWEB) August 30, 2006 -- DataCore Software today announced that one of the United Kingdom's most prestigious media conglomerates -- the Telegraph Group -- has chosen DataCore Software along with VMware to provide a virtual infrastructure for the company and its operating units.

In terms of the environment itself, around sixty servers are being consolidated onto six VMware ESX host servers. A DataCore SANsymphony virtualized storage platform will be added to the existing Fibre Channel SAN to enable new and existing storage resources to be pooled together and data replicated between different models of storage array over two sites.

"Transam has been a valued partner of the Telegraph Group for five years -- delivering high quality services and innovative and effective IT solutions," said Dale Hyde of Transam Microsystems Ltd, a Datacore and VMware Enterprise Partner. "The solution comprises a flexible Virtual IT Infrastructure based on VMware for server virtualization and DataCore for storage virtualization."

An additional benefit of the virtualized storage platform is that it will enable the migration of data and systems with minimal (effectively zero) downtime when the group moves from its current Canary Wharf offices to a new facility in central London later this year.

"We are delighted that the Telegraph Group has selected the combination of DataCore Software and VMware for their virtual infrastructure," said George Teixeira, President and CEO, DataCore Software. "We see this decision time and time again in our customer base because both DataCore and VMware will virtualize the IT infrastructure, while remaining hardware independent."

Significantly, the selection of DataCore by the Telegraph Group underscores another new reality in the world of next-generation data storage, which is that DataCore's software solutions enable legacy HP storage solutions to become virtualized. The Telegraph Group is migrating from old HP storage arrays to new cost-effective HP MSA storage. What is becoming evident through this and other customer deployments is that HP shops can embrace VMware at a reasonable price by using HP MSAs in conjunction with DataCore Software to support their VMware systems.

"This is very good news for users of HP and VMware," said Nick Broadbent, Director of European Operations, DataCore Software. "By adding DataCore to its IT environment, the Telegraph Group can add functionality and high availability to both new and existing HP storage arrays. The customer now enjoys flexibility, greater capability and cost savings as part of the bargain."
