Fort Collins, CO (PRWEB) September 1, 2006 -- Stock your fridges, and enjoy every sip while you still can, because New Belgium Brewery’s hot summer time brew, Skinny Dip, is pulling out of your favorite watering holes as the summer season rolls to an end. Skinny Dip, New Belgium’s new summer seasonal, received an overwhelmingly warm reception, ranking as New Belgium’s most successful beer launch since the introduction of its flagship brew, Fat Tire.
Skinny Dip, with only 110 calories in each 12-ounce bottle, was born out of a desire by New Belgium Founder and tri-athlete Jeff Lebesch’s need for a thirst-quenching beer that was not stripped of all the alcohol or essential flavor. The creation of Skinny Dip was the result, and all indicators show that everyone was craving the same thing.
One indication of its popularity, in its first few months on the shelves, Skinny Dip’s sales soared to place it 15th among craft brews sold in grocery stores in the United States, according to Information Resources, Inc., though it was only distributed in 11% of the stores. It also was the #1 share gainer in grocery stores in several of its markets, including Phoenix/Tucson and Seattle/Tacoma, according to IRI.
“We are thrilled with the reception Skinny Dip has received in the market,” said Bryan Simpson, spokesperson from New Belgium. “We nearly doubled our sales expectations, but more importantly, we’re thrilled with the accolades and the general market’s thirst for what we hope will become a summer favorite for years to come.”
With the exit of Skinny Dip comes New Belgium Brewing’s fall seasonal Saison. Saison, crisp like autumn weather, was created to honor the Saison beers that are a distinctive specialty from the Belgian province of Hainault. The color is classically golden orange and the flavors are refreshing with citrus and fruity hop notes. Saison is a complex beer; it is spicy, dry, sour and citric with a sweet malt edge, with a bit of pleasant bitterness, yet amazingly crisp and simple to enjoy. It is available September through November.
