"You can discover more about a person in an hour of play than in a year of conversation."

Each week a new relationship building game automatically opens on the computer's desktop, with detailed instructions for play. The instructions may include props, which are commonly found household items. The games are designed for 15-30 minute durations, and can be modified to accommodate almost any age. These games are designed with the multi-ages of a family in mind.
The object is to enhance family dynamics through fun activities. Video games, computers and TV are often how families spend time together. This tool allows you to add variety and innovation to the time you spend as a family. The importance of these kinds of relationship enhancing activities will be of benefit for a lifetime.
The Family Action Center at the at the University of Newcastle, Australia, initiated the Families Strengths Research Project, to determine which qualities were perceived as family strengths, and the language families used to describe these qualities. They came up with 8 strengths that help to define what makes a family resilient.
Communication – Open, honest, positive and frequent communication between family members.
Togetherness – the ‘invisible glue’ that helps to bond a family and give members a sense of belonging. An important aspect is the sharing of similar values, beliefs and morals.
Sharing activities – Strong families like sharing activities with each other.
Affection – Showing love, care, concern and interest for each other on a regular basis.
Support – Assisting, encouraging and reassuring each other. Families are seen as being strong when everyone feels equally comfortable in offering or asking for support.
Acceptance – Showing respect, understanding and appreciation for one another’s individuality and uniqueness.
Commitment – Showing dedication and loyalty to the family as a whole. Family comes first.
Resilience –This is the ability of a family to ‘bounce back’ after a period of crisis and adversity. Resilience is what keeps a family ‘together’ and includes the other seven traits.
Family Game Night provides the opportunities to hone these important skills through play and fun.
