The New Art Center in Newton Celebrates 30 Years - Voted Best Gallery by Boston Magazine, August 2006

The New Art Center proudly celebrates its 30th Anniversary as a non-profit community art center, established in 1977.

(PRWEB) September 4, 2006 -- The New Art Center is committed to providing quality arts education and exhibitions to the greater Boston area. For the past 30 years, students of all ages have enjoyed courses in ceramics, drawing, painting, watercolor, sculpture, photography and more. Our instructors are professional artists and art educators who have studied around the world. As the art world and our community change, the New Art Center has also evolved to keep our programming innovative and responsive to the needs of the local art community. The New Art Center’s course offerings and student capacity have grown since the Center’s inception in 1977 due to the appreciation and support of our local and regional community. To find out more about our course offerings for children, youth and adults, please visit us at newartcenter.org. To request a catalog please call us at (617) 964-3424.

The New Art Center has a 30-year tradition of using the Main Gallery for group exhibitions curated by an exhibiting artist or independent curator. Since May 1991 the Center has continued this tradition through a public call for proposals called the Curatorial Opportunity Program. Artists and/or curators are invited to propose exhibitions that can involve works in a single medium, embrace several media, or combine visual arts with poetry, music, film, dance, or other performance. Each November, the New Art Center also holds its celebrated benefit exhibition Icons + Altars. Now in its thirteenth year, Icons + Altars showcases and sells the work of nearly 100 local and regional artists and is a great way to acquire great works of art at a low price. The New Art Center was recently voted Best Gallery West of Boston by Boston Magazine in 2006. We have an exciting year of exhibitions and related public programs in the year ahead.

The New Art Center also runs the exciting Third Thursday Event Series where we host screenings, lectures, readings or special events on the third Thursday of each month. Notable events have included presentations by author Margaret Atwood, musician Ned Rothenberg and film screenings such as Frida and Basquiat. Third Thursdays is sponsored in part by Clarks Companies, Newtonville Books, Harpoon Brewery and the Newton Cultural Council.
