Starting in August, Tom Arma, the most published baby photographer in the world, along with, the world’s largest internet retailer of costumes and accessories, will jointly accept nominations for the Tom Arma Baby and Toddler of the Year contest. Moms and Dads across the country can submit pictures of their baby or toddler in an animal costume for the chance to become “the” Tom Arma cute critter this Halloween.

Grand prize winners in each category—Infant: 0-24 months, Toddler: 2-5 years—will be featured in a premier position on the Tom and websites for millions of visitors to see throughout the next year, receive a signed 2006 Tom Arma Signature Collection costume, and win a Prize Package from Tom Arma as well. Semi-finalists, two from each category, will receive a Prize Package from Tom Arma. Semi-finalists and winners will be chosen from a pool of runners-up. One runner-up will be selected in each category each month for the duration of the contest—in August, September and October.

To enter, parents in the 50 United States can submit a photograph of their adorable little critter via email or regular mail from August 1, 2006 through October 15, 2006. (The shot must have been taken in 2005 or 2006.) Photos, to be judged on overall cuteness and quality, should be no smaller than 4”x6” and no larger than 8”x10”, and must list the child’s name and age as well as the street and email addresses of the parent/guardian. In addition, entrants will be asked to specify if the costume the child is wearing is home-made or store bought, and if store bought from which store it was purchased.

Tom is also asking that entrants describe how their family is becoming eco-friendly. Tom Arma is committed to raising ecological awareness. Each Tom Arma Animal Signature Collection costume contains “critter” facts by the National Wildlife Federation®, becoming more than just a Halloween costume but a wonderful source of conservation information.

For three years now, Tom Arma Signature Collection costumes have been the #1 seller in the children’s costume category at “Parents clearly love Tom Arma costumes—they’re top-of-the-line,” commented Jalem Getz, CEO of “Halloween is about kids of all ages having fun in costume so this contest to find the Tom Arma Baby and Toddler of the Year really fits well with’s mission.”

Tom Arma added, “ Besides having fun photographing your babies and toddlers exploring the world of animals, I hope this contest will help raise awareness of how families can contribute by being eco-friendly, protecting the earth for this and future generations.”

About Tom Arma

Tom Arma, who the New York Times pronounced “the most published baby photographer in the world,” began his career as the youngest staff photographer of the New York Daily News. After several years of covering hard news, and hundreds of journalism awards later, he asked for reassignment to the magazine section of the paper. In that position, he photographed the most famous stars of the time, including Clint Eastwood, Paul Newman, Jack Nicholson, and Michael Caine. Following that, Tom opened his own studio, concentrating on magazine and advertising work. He became well known for his conceptual photography and, during this time, he shot successful campaigns for Fortune 50 companies and covers for Time, People, Money, French Photo, and Ladies Home Journal.

In 1972, Tom began his work with babies, and he’s been capturing the freshness and uninhibited beauty of children ever since. To express his ecological concerns, Tom created his Please Save the Animals™ series of posters and greeting cards. This series of babies dressed in animal outfits designed by Tom was a huge success. He was the first to publish a book exclusively comprised of babies in costume. His success continues today with over 47 books published, and many products licensed worldwide. A sixty print exhibit travels the globe and his photographs have been shown in 58 countries. Also, his Signature Collection of heirloom quality costumes have become enormously popular and were described recently by The Wall Street Journal as “the Armani of the kiddy costume world.”

Celebrating his success, Tom gives back to many charities, and is proud to support the efforts of the National Wildlife Federation®. Tom is currently working on a television series based on his costumed babies.
