Online Registration for Jews that Fled Arab Countries

Over fifty years since near one million Jews were displaced from Arab countries, they now can register online in a process aimed at restoring their rights and helping them seek redress for their suffering and losses.

New York, NY (PRWEB) September 2, 2006 -- Over fifty years since near one million Jews were displaced from Arab countries, they now can register online in a process aimed at restoring their rights and helping them seek redress for their suffering and losses.

The new online registration program has been launched by Justice for Jews from Arab Countries (JJAC), as part of an International Rights and Redress Campaign being launched in November 2006 in over 20 Diaspora Jewish communities.

Jewish refugees and their descendant who fled Arab Countries can now visit www.justiceforjews.com to register their family narratives. The registration is quick, easy, secure, and vital. Persons with questions can contact Shelomo Alfassa, Director of the U.S. Campaign at 917-606-8262.

On two separate occasions the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) ruled that Jew that fled from Arab countries were 'bona fide' refugees who "fall within the mandate of (the UNHCR) office". Yet, there was virtually no international response to the plight of these near one million Jews. For this reason, Justice for Jews from Arab Countries was founded in 2002 to ensure that justice for Jewish refuges from Arab countries assumes its rightful place on the international political and judicial agenda and that their rights be secured as a matter of law and equity.

JJAC is a coalition of Jewish communal organizations operating under the auspices of the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations, the American Sephardi Federation and the World Organization of Jews from Arab Countries. The International Rights and Redress Campaign is endorsed by dozens of Jewish organizations, including, among others, the American Jewish Committee, Anti-Defamation League, American Jewish Congress, Bnai Brith International, JCPA, Central Conference of American Rabbis, United Jewish Communities, United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism, National Council of Young Israel, Hillel, Rabbinical Council of America, and the Union of Orthodox Jewish Congregations of America.

Stanley Urman, Executive Director of Justice for Jews from Arab Countries commented, "Not since the days of the Soviet Jewry movement in the 1970's, has the Jewish community come together as they are now, for this international campaign for Jews from Arab countries."

Internationally, the November 2006 Campaign will be assisted by a coalition of 40 Jewish organizations in North and South America, Europe, Israel and South East Asia including the Asociación Mutual Israelita Argentina; Board of Deputies of British Jews; Confederação Israelita do Brasil; Canadian Jewish Congress; Conseil representatif des institutions juives de France (CRIF); Unione delle Comunita Ebraiche Italiana; Comite Central de la Comunidad Judia de Mexico; Federation of Jewish Communities of Spain (FCJE).
