A candidate should be prepared to justify why they feel they are worth what they ask for during salary negotiations. In a competitive job market well prepared and realistic candidates will always get the jobs they want
Blue Bell, PA (PRWEB) September 5, 2006
When Business Week’s online magazine needed a resource for its recently published feature If You Really Want the Job, Read This, it reached out to Empyrean Management Group’s Mike Kalinsky for his thoughts on what candidates should and should not do during the course of a company’s normal hiring process. The article touches on twelve common mistakes that candidates make while trying to land their next job.
EMG’s CEO touched on two important points during the course of the article. Many candidates forget that the first impression they make with many potential employers is not with their resume but through the e-mail address they use to send the resume. Kalinsky mentioned a recent candidate that used the word seduction in their first e-mail to Empyrean Management Group. According to Kalinsky, the use of potentially inappropriate e-mail addresses used for business purposes is on the rise and does affect someone’s chance at an interview.
Kalinsky was also asked his thoughts on where candidates go wrong during the all important salary negotiation conversation. According to him, many candidates do not do the necessary research to justify their salary expectations for a new role. “A candidate should be prepared to justify why they feel they are worth what they ask for during salary negotiations. In a competitive job market well prepared and realistic candidates will always get the jobs they want,” Mike Kalinsky, Empyrean Management Group CEO.
