The “Bush Doctrine of Parenting” Further Ignites Home Drug Testing Trend

Parents are preemptively attacking potential drug problems by communicating their expectations and linking both rewards and consequences to results of home drug tests. Home drug testing gives kids a socially acceptable excuse to reject drugs, since the words “My parents test me” often diffuse peer pressure and it has even become an alternative to random school drug testing programs in some states.

St. Louis, MO (PRWEB) September 12, 2006 -- Home drug testing kits aren’t just for parents of troubled teens anymore. Parents of presumably drug-free teens are beginning to implement what Mason Duchatschek, president of TestMyTeen.com calls the “Bush Doctrine of Parenting” to keep it that way.

Parents are preemptively attacking potential drug problems by communicating their expectations and linking both rewards and consequences to results of home drug tests. Additionally, they give kids a socially acceptable excuse to reject drugs, since the words “My parents test me” often diffuse peer pressure.

According to Duchatschek, “Parental trust without verification removes the leverage and power the bond of trust has on teens. If teens believe that their parents don’t know what’s going on, they often doubt their mischief will ever be discovered and don’t feel their bond of trust is in jeopardy. Without testing, little or no behavioral deterrent exists," adds Duchatschek.

Additional information and resources, such as parental discussion forums, parent and child drug-free contracts, and home drug testing kits, are available to parents at www.TestMyTeen.com.

NOTE TO EDITOR: Duchatschek is available for interview. TestMyTeen.com was featured recently on CNBC’s The Big Idea with Donny Deutsch and in the April 10, 2006 issue of Newsweek magazine.
