(PRWEB) September 9, 2006 -- LearnSqlServer.com, a website devoted to SQL Server 2005 and SQL Server 2000 tutorials, has just made several more of its video tutorials for SQL Server developers and DBAs available for free. LearnSqlServer.com features video training recorded by an expert instructor and contains an additional 25 hours worth of downloadable training videos for subscribers.

Included in this month's release of free videos are videos on:

  • Part 1 - An Overview of the Setup Process Including Installing the Pre-Requisites – The setup process for SQL Server 2005 is very involved, may take you over an hour (depending on features you choose and speed of media) and often features cryptic messages and stringent requirements. This video is designed to help you understand the initial setup including installing the Pre-Requisites and provides recommendations for ensuring a smooth setup experience.

  • An Overview of the Database Files - Data Files (MDF), the Transaction Log (LDF) and Additional Data Files (NDF) - This video helps you learn about the different file types, their usage in SQL Server, and when and where to use the .NDF files (additional data files).

  • Installing SQL Server - Discussion of Collation Types and Recommendations - When you install SQL Server, you make perhaps one of the most important decisions you can make: which default collation you will use. Should you choose Windows Locale or a SQL Collation (and what's the difference)? Watch this video and get an excellent overview of what collations are and how you should go about choosing the right collation for your installation.

  • Some Dangerous Stored Procedures - xp_cmdshell, sp_OACreate, and sp_enum_dtspackages - xp_cmdshell and sp_OACreate could blue screen your machine but you'd have to be a sysadmin (by default) to execute them. In this video, you'll learn about several dangerous stored procedures and how to neutralize their impact on your system. If security is of utmost importance to you and your team, then this video on SQL Server security and stored procedures is well worth watching.

  • Help - My Transaction Log Is Full and Has Taken Up the Entire Disk Emergency - Real-World Scenario - your transaction log has taken up the entire disk! Your data file is regular size but your transaction log is HUGE. What do you do? If you answered, "Take a transaction log backup" then you need to watch this video (because the log is full, it will not allow you to take a "traditional" transaction log backup). This video presents you with the What-If's, the Why's, and How To's of solving this very problem.
