Southern California Poet Chris Aguilar Releases First Collection of Poetry, 'Mayhem: Collected Poetry 1990-2005'

Chris Aguilar, a poet in Southern California, has just released his first full collection of poetry. His poems have been called "powerful" by editors.

Rancho Palos Verdes, CA (PRWEB) September 9, 2006 -- Southern California Poet, Chris Aguilar, has just released his newest collection of poetry “Mayhem: Collected Poetry 1990-2005.” An accomplished writer, this is his first full length poetry manuscript to appear in print.

Mayhem contains this writer’s most heartfelt work, chronicling the poet’s journey of coming to grips with his childhood in an alcoholic home, as well as his own demons that threatened to lead him down the same roads. Mayhem is a gripping collection of poetry that begins in the shadows of life, and ends with the author finding peace within the chaos of life.

Chris Aguilar wrote the poetry in Mayhem over a fifteen year period and has spent the last two years revising, editing and reviewing poetry to be included in this collection. “Publishing a collection of poetry has been my life long dream since I was twelve years old. I wanted to put together a collection of poetry that would hopefully help someone else dealing with the things that I went through. That is why I write," said Chris Aguilar.

Chris Aguilar has been writing and publishing poetry for well over 15 years. His first works appeared in print at age fifteen. Since then he has gone on to have work appear in national and international publications and independently pushed three chapbooks of poetry that sold worldwide. He has been the featured reader at many venues in the Los Angeles area and cites influences as wide ranging as Henry Rollins, Allen Ginsburg, and Pablo Neruda, to Talib Kweli, and Walt Whitman.

“At the end of it all, this poetry is actually a celebration of life, it starts in such dark places, but ends with us seeing that healing can take place in anyone’s life. It just usually takes time, perspective, and the support of friends and family,” said Chris Aguilar about the poetry in this collection. Work is all ready underway on his next collection of poetry due out in 2007.

Mayhem features commentary from the author about the poetry in this collection, a preface written by the author as well as photographs by Mark Lidikay and Chris Aguilar. Editors have called Chris Aguilar’s poetry “Powerful Stuff”, and “a writer that writes from within, honest.”

Mayhem is available at http://www.lulu.com/ChrisAguilar and will soon be available at all major book sellers under ISBN# 978-1-84728-560-7
