"Public Enemy Number One" Returns to Midland
Byron C.Justice, author of the novel, "Violent Night," was branded "public enemy number one" by fellow Freshmen at Midland's Stephen F. Austin Freshmen School in 1971. His fictional character Leonard Ramblin relives that experience in the novel. Justice will return to Midland for a book signing September 22, 2006
(PRWEB) September 9, 2006 -- Midland's Stephen F. Austin Freshmen School (now Lee Freshmen School) voted Byron Justice "Public Enemy Number One" in a student popularity contest. 35 years later, the Houston Scoutmaster and author visits Midland to promote his novel, Violent Night. Justice borrowed from his life as a youth in the Permian Basin when creating the fictional character Leonard Ramblin for the novel.
Completed in the months before Hurricane Rita sideswiped Houston, Violent Night follows 7 teens as they survive both a psychopathic nemesis and an the assault of Category 5 hurricane. The Day of Reckoning grants the youths new lives on The Other Side, but leaves their youngest member behind in a dystopian Forsaken World where evil has the upper hand. Lightning is a gateway between worlds, allowing evil a chance to make the jump.
Kansas-based Heartland Reviews gave the book its best rating of five hearts; reviewer Marcia Schutte
commented,
The inevitable comparison is to the "Left Behind" series; do yourself a favor and read the gripping tale that is Violent Night instead.
The public is invited to a book signing hosted by Hastings Books, Music, and Video at 3111 W. Cuthbert Avenue in Midland. The event will be from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Friday, September 22, 2006. A drawing will be held offering patrons a chance to win a Violent Night T-shirt.
