Dr. David Weiman presents his popular seminar on the psychology of buying and selling jewelry at Bead Fest Philadelphia on October 8. This lively and engaging seminar teaches jewelry artisans how to market and sell more effectively.

Dr. David Weiman, a licensed psychologist and expert on marketing and selling handcrafted jewelry, presents his new three-hour seminar, The 5 Keys to Selling Jewelry, at Bead Fest Philadelphia on Sunday, October 8 at the Greater Reading Expo Center.

Weiman’s seminar is for everyone from beginning jewelry sellers who want to prepare themselves to succeed, to experienced, successful artisans who want to refine their jewelry selling technique.

The main focus of the seminar is to help participants understand the unique personality of buyers of handmade jewelry. Weiman also teaches jewelry makers -- step by step -- how to turn casual prospects into loyal customers.

“To understand why people buy jewelry, you really have to understand what motivates someone to buy something they don’t need,” Weiman says. “I explain the psychology behind this kind of buying.”

“I also teach jewelry sellers the secrets to connecting with their clients on a deeper level, so that they can develop successful, long-term business relationships,” Weiman says.

In addition to teaching about the psychology of buying, Weiman’s seminar also helps participants recognize and prepare to overcome common obstacles that jewelry makers face.

The 5 Keys to Selling Jewelry also covers the power of setting goals, how to write a business plan, how to learn more about a prospect’s jewelry preferences, how to set prices and how to learn about competitors. The seminar concludes with an open forum question-and-answer session.

Dr. Weiman has been the marketing director of Lapidary Journal, the world’s oldest gem and jewelry arts magazine, since 1986. He is also the marketing director of Step by Step Beads and Step by Step Wire Jewelry magazines, and he writes the column “Jewelry Marketing Q&A.”

The 4th Annual Bead Fest Philadelphia, sponsored and run by Lapidary Journal and Step by Step Beads magazines, takes place October 4-8 (through Columbus Day Weekend) with more than 100 classes and 200 vendors all devoted to beads and bead jewelry. Participants can learn how to string beads and pearls, make wire and metal clay jewelry, weave and stitch seed beads, lampwork glass beads, as well as shop for beads and jewelry making tools and supplies.

Classes take place Wednesday through Sunday, and exhibitors will sell beads and jewelry making tools and supplies Friday through Sunday. Those who sign up for a class get free admission to the vendor hall.
