Pandemic Flu Imminent; Healthcare Community Fails to Create Preparedness Plan

Addressing the issue of properly treating all patients in a crisis is the first step in creating a realistic plan.

(PRWEB) September 8, 2006 -- Avian Flu Talk, announces the launch of its new affiliate website that has now begun selling medical tents to the healthcare community to help medical centers prepare for a pandemic flu.

“The main focus in pandemic flu planning should be in the area of hospital preparedness to ensure that all hospitals are prepared to handle any sudden increase in hospital admissions. Addressing the issue of properly treating all patients in a crisis is the first step in creating a realistic plan. It's important for each medical center to asses its own ability to handle an increase of new patients.” said Ryan Evans, founder of Avian Flu Talk.

The new web portal that sells the medical tents can be viewed at www.Medtents.com. The majority of the proceeds from Medtents will be reinvested into community preparedness.

Earlier this week, Avian Flu Talk posted an awareness advertisement created by Ready.gov in support of National Preparedness Month. National Preparedness Month goes throughout the month of September.

Avian Flu Talk recently announced a recommendation for all citizens to obtain a pneumonia vaccination known as the pneumococcal PPV23. A pneumonia vaccination has the ability to prevent the lethal secondary bacterial infection which can develop as a complication to a severe flu. The most common way to treat the secondary infection is with antibiotics, which would be in short supply during a pandemic. Obtaining a pneumonia vaccination ahead of time is thought to be more effective than using antibiotics to fight the pneumonia infection. Until the emergence of this new super-flu virus, such preventive measures were rarely discussed.

For more information on how to prepare for a possible pandemic flu, we would encourage all of those who have not already done so, to visit this online preparedness discussion forum located at www.Avianflutalk.com.
