Irving, TX (PRWEB) September 10, 2006

Adding broadband is one way developers and property managers are coping with the recent real estate downturn. The trend is affirmed by advance registration for the Broadband Summit, being held at the Marriott Las Colinas Hotel in Irving, Texas Sept 11-13.

“We have almost 600 registrants as of the morning of September 8,” says Scott DeGarmo, president of Houston-based Broadband Properties Magazine. “That’s up more than 100 from last year. Our exhibit space has been sold out since spring.” The magazine (http://www.broadbandproperties.com) is the leading source of information for property managers, owners, and developers about fiber to the home and other broadband alternatives for buildings and communities.

Several mayors will be there, including former venture capitalist Graham Richards of Ft. Wayne Indiana. Hilda Legg, an advocate for rural broadband (and former head of the Rural Utilities Service) will deliver a major address.

“Speakers and participants are coming in from all over the world,” says Steven S. Ross, editor-in-chief. They include innovative network builders from Mexico, Dubai, and the Netherlands. A popular topic of discussion will be a recent report by the cable industry’s own technical arm, saying that cable companies may have to replace their $60 billion coax plant with fiber, to keep up with Verizon and AT&T.”
