9/11 Ground Zero Responders Address Delaware EMS Conference

5 years later, what are the lessons learned from 9/11? Are we as a nation better prepared? If not, what can we do to protect citizens? (Time Sensitive)

Dover, DE (PRWEB) September 11, 2006 -- Emergency responders who served at Ground Zero following the attacks of 9/11/01 will be commemorating the event by sharing lessons learned from the World Trade Center response with EMS and Fire-Rescue Personnel during the Delaware Volunteer Firemen’s Association 2006 Conference.

Leading the team of Ground Zero responders are Bunny Dubin and Lou Angeli, filmmakers and Ground Zero volunteers whose film, “Answering The Call: Ground Zero’s Volunteers,” depicts rescue and recovery at the World Trade Center from the viewpoint of 40,000 volunteers. The film was released on September 9, 2006 to an international audience of 200 million and will be screened for the first time by emergency responders at the Dover conference.

Topics will include: A first hand retrospective of life and death at Ground Zero; the importance of volunteers during response to major emergencies; and the current heated debate over illnesses suffered by 70% of Ground Zero’s emergency responders.

Joining Dubin and Angeli are Jeff Johns, an emergency response team leader with the New York Transit System (3 months at GZ); Suzan Vitti, EMT and nursing student (6 months at GZ) and EMT Instructor Ayal Lndemann, whose research into post 9/11 illness is drawing attention to the plight of 9/11 responders.

On 9/11/01, the State of Delaware quickly assembled a task force of EMS personnel, physicians, nurses and other first responders, who staged near New York City within 12 hours of the request for assistance from the City of New York. Many who responded on that mutual aid call for help will be in attendance.

The event will be attended by both professional and volunteer EMS-Rescue responders, not only from Delaware, but the Mid-Atlantic States as well. Event organizers have opened this section of the conference to the media, and presenters will be available for comment following the 9am presentation.
