Aging Population Spells Opportunity for a New Career

Looking for job stability and job growth? Train for a career in the healthcare industry. Northeast Technical Institute (NTI), with campuses throughout Maine and Massachusetts, offers short-term, hands-on training for today’s hottest healthcare jobs.

Scarborough, ME (PRWEB) September 13, 2006 -- At the heart of every crisis, there lies great opportunity. This seems especially true in viewing the increasing crisis in healthcare as an opportunity for career changers and the under-employed to build a secure, profitable career.

Signs are everywhere that as the American "baby boomer" population ages, the shortage of qualified graduates from healthcare school programs will reach epidemic proportions. It is no accident that, over the next decade, the single fastest-growing employment sector in the country will be in healthcare.

The World Health Organization recently reported that there is a "chronic shortage" of 4 million trained healthcare workers in 57 countries. In the U.S., the American baby boomer generation is typically regarded as those individuals born from 1946 to 1964, and according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), the baby boomers requiring healthcare will rise by 10 million persons over the next decade. Additionally, over the next ten years, the boomers will increase the population of the 55 to 64 year-old age category by 36 percent while the population of young adults - those most likely to fill healthcare jobs - will only rise by 2.9 percent.

Northeast Technical Institute Meets the Demands of Healthcare Industry
According to the BLS, graduates from healthcare school programs will be in great demand over the next decade and beyond. Healthcare occupations as a group will rise 27% by 2014. And school graduates from medical assisting programs will find a 52% rise in employment opportunities

Since 1982, Northeast Technical Institute (NTI), with campuses throughout Maine and Massachusetts, has been training and placing healthcare professionals all over New England. With its short-term, hands-on approach to training, NTI graduates are job-ready, nationally certified, and are prepared to meet the industry’s overwhelming needs and demands for qualified healthcare professionals.

Gail Aikins, a recent graduate of NTI’s Clinical Medical Assistant program said, “Job opportunities after graduating from NTI were plentiful. I had 4 or 5 interviews and two job offers. I selected a urology clinic in Portland because the job they offered was interesting, I get to help people - which is very important to me, and I have prospects for advancement as I gain job experience.”

Beth Herrin had been unemployed for several months before attending NTI’s Medical Coding and Billing program. After just 4 months of training and earning her national certification, Beth is now employed by a hospital in northern Massachusetts. And Laura Grove was a lifelong waitress before attending NTI’s Medical Office Assistant program. She’s now working with a psychotherapy clinic as the assistant to the medical office manager.

Getting Started with a New Career in the Healthcare Industry
For serious career-changers or those tired of layoffs and being under-employed, healthcare training is not difficult to acquire. Northeast Technical Institute offers courses such as Clinical Medical Assistant, Coding and Billing, Medical Transcription, and Health Information Management. All are offered on a regular basis (classes start every week). Most courses take only a few months to complete and graduates of NTI are now working with some of the region's leading healthcare organizations including Maine Medical Center, University Healthcare, InterMed, Home Health Agency, Inc., Whittier Hospital, Holy Family Hospital, and many more. And with NTI’s exclusive “Flex-Train” students can custom design a schedule to meet the demands of their busy lifestyle. The Flex-Train method also allows students to train at their own pace, receive one-on-one instruction, learn and retain information faster, and earn national certification.
