“The Fuhgeddaboudit Kid” Makes a “Hit” in Screenwriting Contest
A comedy screenplay, "The Fuhgeddaboudit Kid", has been announced as 2nd place winner in the 2006 American Screenwriting Competition. Industry insiders agree it's unusual for family comedies to score so high in contests, but the excellent writing, clever crafting and entertaining style in this high-concept script won the judges' hearts. The co-writers, Rossner & Anderson, have written other award-winning screenplays, and invite interest from film producers and investors.
Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) September 13, 2006 -- Richard Rossner & Marilyn Anderson's screenplay, "The Fuhgeddaboudit Kid", won 2nd Prize in the American Screenwriting Competition announced last week. It also placed 2nd in the recent Scriptapalooza contest.
This family comedy about a 10-year-old boy and his dad is a combination of “Home Alone” meets “The Sopranos.”
The one-liner: Cory had a problem with bullies ... so he told them his dad was in the mob ... now his dad has the problem!
Industry experts agree, “It’s unusual for a broad family comedy to place so high in a Screenwriting Contest. But this high-concept family comedy is so clever, well-crafted, and absolutely entertaining -- that it won everybody over.”
And just how does one make a family comedy with “gangsters” that is right for both parents and their kids? Richard and Marilyn figured it out: “We got rid of the guns! The mobsters are still tough, but we actually found a way to make it believable -- as well as terrific fun the whole way through!”
It’s not the first time this writing team has received kudos for their screenplays. They co-authored another family comedy, “Tough Cookies,” which won one of the top honors in a Writer’s Digest Screenwriting Competition.
Individually, they have each written award-winning scripts. Marilyn Anderson’s comedy, “So Long, Goodbye, Hello” was a top ten finalist in the 2005 American Screenwriting Contest. Her play “Not Tonight, Guido” was a semi-finalist of the Moondance Playwriting Competition. Additionally, the organization Women in Film honored Marilyn with a LUMINAS Award for the positive depiction of women in film and television.
Marilyn is the author of a hilarious book on relationships: “NEVER KISS A FROG: A Girl’s Guide to Creatures from the Dating Swamp.” She has appeared on over 120 radio and TV shows, and was the “Dating, Flirting & Kissing Coach” on ABC’s “Extreme Makeover.” Her wit and wisdom has also been featured in magazines and newspapers throughout the country.
Richard Rossner’s screenplay “Finding Center” was a semi-finalist in a Writer’s Digest Screenwriting Competition. Richard was a member of Los Angeles’ premier improvisational theater group, The Groundlings. He and his wife started a company, The Power of Play, which teaches the healing benefits of humor and creativity to people dealing with cancer.
Richard and Marilyn are currently entertaining offers from producers who want to buy “The Fuhgeddaboudit Kid” -- and produce it. They have been in development hell with other projects and are committed to seeing “The Fuhgeddaboudit Kid” reach the screen.
Interested companies and investors are invited to contact them as soon as possible.
This is one funny screenplay that is going to be snapped up soon -- so, in this case -- don't fuhgeddaboudit!
