Long Island Plastic Surgical Group One of First in U.S. to Offer MACS-Lift. Procedure Requires Fewer Incisions and Results in More Natural Look

Long Island Plastic Surgical Group (LIPSG) is one of the first Plastic Surgery centers in the country to offer the MACS-lift (Minimal Access Cranial Suspension lift). Unlike traditional facelifts, this technique allows surgeons to lift the middle layer of muscle and tissue in a vertical direction, virtually eliminating the horizontal “windswept” look. The procedure is also a shorter and less invasive procedure, requiring less patient downtime.

Garden City, NY (PRWEB) September 15, 2006 -- Long Island Plastic Surgical Group (LIPSG) is one of the first Plastic Surgery centers in the country to offer the MACS-lift (Minimal Access Cranial Suspension lift). Unlike traditional facelifts, this technique allows surgeons to lift the middle layer of muscle and tissue in a vertical direction, virtually eliminating the horizontal “windswept” look. The procedure is also a shorter and less invasive procedure, requiring less patient downtime.

The MACS-lift was first described in medical literature in 2002. Vincent DiGregorio, M.D., F.A.C.S., a senior partner with LIPSG, recently traveled to Belgium to learn this new procedure from the Plastic Surgeons that developed the technique. “I think this exciting and innovative procedure offers our patients excellent short and long term results with minimal downtime and less conspicuous scarring,” said DiGregorio. “Although it is not for everyone, it is a major breakthrough for those who are concerned with the risks and recovery time of a conventional facelift.”

As we age, the middle layer of the face sags, producing unflattering jowls, deep marionette lines and sagging necks. According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, over 150,000 American patients choose to undergo a facelift last year to combat these signs of aging.

However, in contrast to the horizontal pull of a traditional facelift, the MACS-lift works to correct the effects of gravity by lifting the middle layer vertically, resulting in a more natural look. “This principal is easily demonstrated on oneself by placing fingertips on the cheeks and elevating vertically towards the brow rather than horizontally towards the ears,” stated Dr. DiGregorio.

In addition, unlike the traditional facelift that merely tightens the skin, a MACS-lift address the middle layer of muscle and tissue. The surgeon elevates the middle layer with precisely paced dissolvable sutures, and removes very little skin, allowing it to re-drape over the lifted layer. The MACS-lift also utilizes fewer incisions than a traditional facelift. The entire operation takes two or three hours, versus five or six hours for a traditional facelift, and can be performed under local anesthesia. Recovery time is approximately three weeks, much shorter than a conventional facelift.

Patients who would like more information about this procedure are invited to schedule a free consultation with Dr. DiGregorio. Before and after photos of his patients are also available. Patients should call (516) 742-3404 for more information.
