OnceWritten.com, a site for new and emerging fiction writers, offers semi-annual short story contests, with grand prizes of $1,000.

The contest, which features a $1,000 grand prize and one $100 first prize is seeking high-quality short stories with a maximum of 5,000 words from new and established writers. The contest deadline is October 31, 2006. A $20 reading fee applies.
OnceWritten.com offers two annual general fiction contests, two annual poetry contests, and an annual horror/Halloween contest, and has already awarded more than $6,000 in cash prizes to emerging authors.
