In the earliest days of the Internet explosion, Scot Combs and his partners had a great idea. They would build an online radio network to super-serve Internet listeners around the world. Netradio.net was born, built and attracted as many as 50 million listens per month; a feat, as yet, unequaled.

Now Combs has turned his sights on the world of podcasting with “Martial Arts Explorer”, the world’s first video podcast dedicated to classical martial arts. The program is produced by Full Circle Media (division of Full Circle Defense Training Corporation, a non-profit also founded by Combs) and is served by The Podcasting Network of Melbourne, Australia. Combs is the executive producer and host. Thousands of people are already viewing the programs, which are updated weekly. An archive is kept so viewers can see shows they’ve missed or would like to see again.

When asked why he chose martial arts, with its narrow niche, Combs said , “The martial arts are a passion for me and I’m dedicated to promoting the good derived from excellent martial arts training. Video podcasting is the perfect way to disseminate martial arts concepts and techniques. The shows are not constrained by old media limitations such as duration, schedule, or reach of a TV or cable channel. Viewers can ‘tune in’ at any time that is convenient for them, and the distribution is world-wide.”

Martial Arts Explorer examines practical self-defense techniques as revealed in classical forms of all styles. The program duration varies from about 7 to 10 minutes. Combs hosts the show, colleague Michael Klinepier demonstrates the concept or technique and the students of the Full Circle Karate school (Shoreview, MN) practice while Klinepier instructs and encourages them.

The program is professionally produced, and it shows. Here are a couple of online reviews: http://www.allever.com/index.php?tag=karate Offers a closer, explanatory look to the history and evolution of martial arts techniques. Nicely produced and mighty interesting.” and “Yahoo Podcasts: User Reviews     Martial arts explorer Very well done. Actually learned some things.”

Combs believes this video podcast will reveal the power of podcasting for training and communications of all kinds via Internet, PDAs, mobile phone networks, personal media players and more.
