InsureMe Does the Unexpected
Lead generator delivers free pizza to NetQuote.
Denver, CO (PRWEB) September 15, 2006 -- InsureMe, a company that links insurance professionals with people shopping online for insurance coverage, treated an industry rival to lunch on Friday.
InsureMe had 15 piping-hot, prepaid pizzas delivered to NetQuote, a fellow Denver-based business.
“Well, everybody has to eat,” InsureMe CEO Tim McTavish said playfully when asked what prompted the surprise pizza delivery. “We just hope they’re as keen on Hawaiian pizza as we are. We understand that pineapple on pizza isn’t for everybody.”
McTavish elaborated that there were plenty of options for all tastes, including a few of his favorite vegetarian choices.
With about 60 employees each, NetQuote and InsureMe are both considered pioneers in the online lead generation business. Despite being direct competitors, they are building what McTavish calls a “friendly” relationship.
InsureMe had their statistician perform some skillful analysis to calculate just the right amount of pizza for the Colorado office.
“I figured four people per large pizza would be about 15 pizzas,” Deusterman said, adding that he carefully considered that while most employees will get three slices of pizza, some will only receive two.
He was also able to predict, based on experience with InsureMe that “there is a 98% chance that one annoyingly vocal vegetarian will make a show of taking slices from the veggie pizza.”
Deusterman would have liked more information about the topping preferences of NetQuote’s employees before placing the order, but InsureMe’s desire to keep the pizza delivery a surprise outweighed his pleas for more data.
Mike Sajdak, InsureMe’s chief financial officer and one of the architects of the rather unusual idea, sincerely hopes the pizza delivery will strengthen the friendship between the two companies.
Sajdak: “We hope they enjoyed the surprise -- and that we've added a little humor and fun to their Friday afternoon.”
