Tevye, the New Musical, Debuts in LA

Tevye, the new musical, after its acclaimed debut at the Stages 2005 Theatre Festival in Chicago, will test the waters in Los Angeles with a staged reading at the El Portal Forum Theatre on Wednesday October 11, 2006 at 7:45 p.m. starring Jim Brochu.

(PRWEB) September 16, 2006 -- Oy vey, now LA has a chance to kvell!

Tevye, Sholom Aleichem's beloved Papa, returns to the stage in a poignant new musical telling the story of his struggle to reconcile family and faith with life in the New World.

This expansion of Aleichem's characters takes place in the Bronx, New York in 1918.

The story involves Tevye, who is now a widower, his romance with Shayna Goldstein, star of the New York Yiddish Theatre, and his struggle to deal with his grandson, Nicholas, who has come to live with Tevye after the death of his parents, Chava and Fyedka.

The staged reading will star Jim Brochu, star of his critically acclaimed one-man biographical show about Zero Mostel, "Zero Hour."

The music in Tevye was written by Thomas Adams, the lyrics were written by J.M. Eisenman and the book was written by J.M. Eisenman & Thomas Adams.

Tevye made its debut as one of eight featured musicals at the Stages 2005 Theatre Festival. Chicago Sun-Times theatre critic, Hedy Weiss, described the show as "a remarkably fine piece of work." Jan Huttner of All About Jewish Theatre wrote "What a concept? Why didn't anyone think of it before?"

The staged reading will be held on Wednesday October 11, 2006 at 7:45 p.m. at the El Portal Forum Theatre, 5269 Lankershim Boulevard, North Hollywood, California 91601. Reservations can be made by calling (818) 203-1581.
