Sending Your Kids to Juvie

Juvie: Clothes and Gifts for Older Kids features hip, unique, and vintage clothing and gifts for kids 7-14, in a shop that is designed to make kids feel relaxed and happy. The store – which opens September 28th -- features a lounge area with a giant bean bag, chairs, and magazine-covered tables, and fitting rooms are sized to accommodate parent and child together. Juvie will host events like “Book Blabs” (a kids’ book club), “Stitch and Dish” (a kids’ needlecrafts club), and holiday-themed events such as a handmade Valentines workshop.

Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) September 21, 2006 -- With a Ph.D. from U.S.C. in Psychology, you’d think Kristen Taylor wouldn’t have had encountered such difficulty finding hip clothes and gear for her two kids Lola and Luke. But shopping in most stores in Los Angeles left her hyperventilating. “When my kids outgrew the baby boutiques, I was at a loss. The choices were stifling, the clothes all looked the same, and my kids hated the experience,” she says.

So Taylor decided to open Juvie: Clothes and Gifts for Older Kids, which features hip, high-quality clothing and gifts for kids 7-14, in a shop that is designed to make kids feel relaxed and happy.

As for the clothes, they are fashionable, age-appropriate, and not what is found in every other kids’ boutique or at the mall. Several of the lines are re-imagined pieces from adult designers, cut and styled for kids. Also, Juvie will feature an ever-changing collection of vintage, never-worn items from the ‘60s and ‘70s. “These pieces are ‘new old’ stock, complete with their original tags, and are a great way to get the real-deal vintage look, without any of the wear and tear of second-hand pieces,” says Taylor. She’ll also carry an exclusive new line from “Little By Jenny,” as well as hot items from Pamela Barsky and Tina Neumann.

Kids will also love all the gift ideas at Juvie, which include unique accessories, iPod holders, games, book bags, and craft kits from Fred, DCI, Worldwide Products, GoGoGear, and Kikkerland, to name a few. Many other items are hand-crafted by small designers who create gifts to order. “Juvie is the place to go when kids are shopping for their friends’ birthdays, or splurging on themselves with their allowance!” says Taylor.

Taylor, who earned her M.A. at the University of Hawaii studying dolphin cognition and communication, has been teaching classes on baby sign language and writing essays on parenting and motherhood. She says, “I want this store to be a problem-solver for families: a place where kids feel comfortable and want to hang out, and where parents feel like they get a special selection and very personal service.”

The grand opening party is a benefit for the Silver Lake Children’s Theatre Group, and will take place on Thursday, September 28, 2006 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the store: 2395 Glendale Boulevard, Unit C, in Los Angeles, CA 90039. Shoppers can enjoy refreshments while listening to tunes spun by DJ Doublebutt. Reach the store directly at 323.667.0344.
