Are Big Companies Better at Producing Talent? Not in Sales.
Survey reveals major disconnect in hiring philosophy between corporate recruiters and line managers.
(PRWEB) September 21, 2006 -- Contrary to common wisdom held by Corporate Recruiters, Sales Executives from global, brand name market leaders are no more qualified or effective than Sales Executives from small startups.
82% of Technology Sales Executives surveyed by Sterling-Hoffman stated that sales professionals from big companies are no better at selling than sales professionals who have spent their entire careers at smaller companies. Sterling-Hoffman is a search firm that specializes in recruiting sales executives for software companies.
"What's shocking about this poll is that the results completely contradict best practices used by corporate recruiters," said Angel Mehta, Chief Executive Officer of Sterling-Hoffman. "Most corporate recruiters are after 'pedigree' - they strongly prefer candidates who have worked at a large, well known company. The common belief is that large companies attract the best talent, provide the best training, and therefore produce the best people. But according to our poll, the people who are in the trenches completely disagree."
More than 500 senior technology sales executives were surveyed in the poll, as part of an ongoing initiative by Sterling-Hoffman to better understand why technology companies have such a difficult time hiring high performing sales professionals.
