Cassandra Hollis Film, The Altar, Selected For Christian WYSIWYG Film Festival

Filmmaker Cassandra Hollis' film that addresses homelessness in America will screen at the 7th Annual Christian WYSIWYG Film Festival October 18, 2006. The Altar stars Elisabeth Omilami and L. (Laparee) Warren Young.

ATLANTA, GA (PRWEB) September 21, 2006 -- Fresh off the heels of a successful screening at the Jokara (SW GA) Film Festival, Holy Hill Productions’ short film, “The Altar,” has been selected for another film festival that features family oriented and Christian themed films. Filmmaker Cassandra Hollis wrote, produced and directed the film chosen as an official selection of the 7th Annual Christian WYSIWYG Film Festival October 17-21, 2006 in San Francisco, California. The Altar, starring renowned actress and homeless advocate, Elisabeth Omilami, is a drama about a successful woman who ends up homeless after tragedy touches her family and her journey of Faith.

Filmed in various homeless shelters and other itinerant locations in Atlanta, Filmmaker Cassandra Hollis said the Italian neo-realism period was the inspiration for the stylization of the film.

“The Italian filmmakers in post World War II wanted to show the devastation of the landscape and how people were surviving after the war. In The Altar, I wanted to show actual locations where the homeless live and struggle so that people could see and feel the humanity of that and want to do something about it,” she said.

Hollis notes that Elisabeth Omilami was the divinely guided choice for the lead role. Omilami most recently appeared in Tyler Perry’s Madea’s Family Reunion. She also had stand out roles in Glory Road and Ray. A much sought-after actress, Omilami may be best known in Atlanta for her years of dedication to the Hosea Feed the Hungry and Homeless organization founded by her father, Civil Rights leader Hosea Williams, over thirty years ago. Today, she and her husband, actor Afemo Omilami, are the Co-Executive Directors of HFTH.

The 7th annual Christian WYSIWYG Film Festival October 17-21, 2006 is internationally recognized for showcasing the best in wholesome, family cinema entertainment. The festival features a diverse cross section of the industry from feature films to independent short subject entries. The Altar will screen on Wednesday, October 18 between 6:30pm and 10pm.
