Calling all Farm Fresh Markets and Growers: Get Produce Information on the Web at agri-cultureheath.com
A website dedicated to the success of Farm Fresh Markets and Growers in the Delmarva area is offering free listings to populate its database—a tool to help consumers find the fresh local produce on the web, and for Farm Markets and Growers to find each other.
Newark, DE (PRWEB) September 21, 2006 -- In today’s fast paced world, getting a product in front of the public, especially on the web, is a highly competitive proposition. Even produce growers and Farm Markets that sell fresh produce to consumers have a tough time of it—adding another layer of complexity to a busy schedule (create the website, pay for the website, update the website, search engine optimization, more updates, etc.).
Even if they already have a website, many farm and/or market operations worry about getting lost amid the web-clutter, but www.agri-culturehealth.com offers Delmarva growers and marketers a chance to either get an initial web presence or enhance the one they already have. The site offers free accounts to populate the site’s database that can be searched by crop, location or market name, a powerful tool that developers hope will spur usage of the site and help get fresh local produce to the consumer.
The website was originally designed by the Mid-Atlantic Consortium, a group of educational institutions and organizations dedicated to promoting healthier populations via local fresh produce consumption. “Our intent was to create a user-driven site,” notes project director Carl German of the University of Delaware’s Department of Food & Resource Economics. “It’s more than just a list,“ he said. “It’s a powerful tool for markets and growers with in-depth information on planning farm markets, links to food safety and health resources, daily and weekly market and crop reports and wholesale auction information.
“Now’s the time for produce growers and farm markets to get their crops listed in the site’s database to enhance the value of the site in promoting their respective businesses,” continued German. “Listing a market’s name, address and phone number is a small part of it — the searchable database can be greatly enhanced; there is a huge benefit to promoting your business to thousands of potential customers by listing your crops. We’ve made it user-friendly, so people can change product offerings as the seasons change.”
The website also offers a classifieds section and other tools for wholesalers and retailers, such as a link to the Laurel Farmer’s Auction Market in Sussex County, Delaware (which provides a mechanism of price discovery for produce items).
“This website is much more than just an advertising tool,” said German. “The end goal is to create a platform from which growers and marketers can access each other as well as consumers, with business-building information and mechanisms to help everyone find what they’re looking for. www.agri-culturehealth.com is designed to build commerce between fresh market growers, farm markets, and consumers.”
Those who are already members are urged to update their listings with crops offered, and make sure their contact information and web link is current, but even businesses that don’t currently have a web presence can benefit from the website.
“We invite all Farm Fresh Markets and Growers to check out the site—create a free business listing complete with available crops, calendar events, and classified adds for business use.” notes German. “The more this site is used the better the chances your business and product offerings being seen by potential buyers whether they are Farm Fresh growers, retailers, and/or consumers.”
