The Fascinating Memoir of Boston’s First Black Transit Manager
In Everyman, African-American Robert Prince gives a history of his trials and tribulations as he rose up Boston’s transit system from bus seat to board seat.
Roxbury, MA (PRWEB) September 23, 2006 -- In "Everyman," African-American Robert Prince gives a history of his trials and tribulations as he rose up Boston’s transit system from bus seat to board seat.
Inspired by his old principal who didn’t remember him, Robert Prince set out to write a book celebrating the successes an “average” person could have. Boston Transit Authority’s first African-American manager, Prince’s story is as fascinating as it is inspiring.
Do average guys finish last? Not according to Robert Prince’s incredible memoir about how he overcame great odds to become a great success. Robert Prince, the first African-American General Manager of Boston’s Transit Authority, began life as an ordinary kid, but he didn’t consider that a handicap. Wanting to inspire others, Prince set out to write a book that speaks to the average person, and show what amazing things a so-called “run-of-the-mill” person can accomplish.
In eloquent prose, Prince examines the blockades African-American kids have in their lives, especially when their role models for success are huge sports or music icons they can never hope to live up to. Eschewing fantasy for reality, Prince delivers another sort of role model for these kids: himself. An “everyman” who took advantage of every break along the way, Prince fought racism and found hope in hard work and perseverance. Prince’s love for the transit system is wonderfully palpable, and his book is not just a fascinating historical document, but a stirring testament to his spirit, as well.
