Introducing TheraCran™: the First and Only Cranberry Supplement Clinically Proven to Prevent Bacterial Adherence in the Urinary Tract

New consumer Website makes TheraCran™ available at www.TheraCran.com.

(PRWEB) September 22, 2006 -- Following a year-long development process with Ocean Spray International, Inc. and Dr. Amy Howell, of the world-renowned Phillip E. Marucci Blueberry and Cranberry Research Center of Rutgers University, Theralogix, LLC of Rockville, Maryland, has released TheraCran™ on a new consumer website.

Many published studies have demonstrated that the bioactive proanthocyanidins (PACs) found in cranberry products can prevent urinary tract infections (UTIs) by blocking the ability of bacteria to stick to the bladder lining. Now, a university-based clinical trial has confirmed that TheraCran™ produces significant levels of bacterial anti-adherence activity in the urine of human volunteers. TheraCran™ was introduced at the May 2006 American Urological Association (AUA) meeting, after TheraCran™ trial results were presented in April 2006 at the meeting of the Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology and subsequently published in The FASEB Journal. Prior to today’s launch of the TheraCran™ consumer website, the urological community has been the primary source of referral for thousands of TheraCran™ customers.

About Urinary Tract Infections, Cranberry Juice, and Supplements

Urinary tract infections or “UTIs” are the most common bacterial infections in adults. According to the 1997 National Ambulatory Medical Care Survey, they are responsible for more than 8 million doctor office visits and almost a million visits to the emergency room each year.

Urinary tract infections are much more common in women then men, and one woman in three will have one by the age of 24. A recent study found that 11 percent of women surveyed reported having a UTI in the past year. After a single urinary tract infection, 30 to 50 percent of women will suffer a recurrence, most within a few months.

In the United States, over 11 million women receive antibiotics for a UTI each year. Repeated use of antibiotics will lead to resistant bacterial strains and an increased risk of recurrence. The U.S. health care system spends close to $2 billion per year dealing with urinary tract infections.
There is currently no scientifically-proven “natural cure” for a urinary tract infection (UTI). While various home remedies can provide symptom relief, only a prescription antibiotic can actually cure a UTI, bladder infection, or cystitis.

The daily dose of TheraCran™ (one capsule twice a day) delivers the PAC content of 12 ounces of cranberry juice, but more consistently and more effectively, at a lower cost, and with far fewer calories.
