Sacramento, CA (PRWEB) September 23, 2006 -- At a Board of Directors meeting held September 7 and 8, 2006, the California Independent Grocers Association (CIGA) elected CIGA Director Mike Stone of San Francisco-based Mollie Stone's Markets to fill a vacant board position. The vacancy was created by the resignation of CIGA's Third Vice President/Assistant Treasurer Bill O’Brien of O’Brien’s Markets in Riverbank. Mike Stone will complete the year of service on the Executive Committee of the Board.
Bill O’Brien resigned his position to focus on his commitment to his family and the community he serves. “Bill is an outstanding example of integrity,” says CIGA Executive Director Sharon Paxton. "His guidance and leadership will be missed."
CIGA Board Chairman Scott Hair confirmed the board's enthusiasm for Mike Stone's election, stating "Mike is a tremendous asset to the industry with his visionary leadership and dedication to the independent grocers.”
Headquartered in Sacramento, California, CIGA has continued to represent the Independent Retail Food Industry since the early 1900s. Today, more than 1,200 independent grocers and supplier companies make up its membership. CIGA’s vision is to be the best possible association by promoting, supporting, educating, protecting and fulfilling the needs of the independent grocer.
