Computer Gamers Compete in Tournament for Cash Prize
Computer games players from the Bracknell, Crowthorne, Sandhurst and Camberley areas have been taking part in a new contest being held at theaubergineroom internet & gaming centre in Crowthorne. Taking part in a league running until the October half-term holiday, young people have been challenging each other in a battle of wits and skill. Playing the popular, fast-paced action game Counter Strike: Source, the players have been battling for supremacy on the powerful computers available at theaubergineroom Internet café and gaming centre, based in Crowthorne, Berkshire.

Computer games players from the Bracknell, Crowthorne, Sandhurst and Camberley areas have been taking part in a new contest being held at theaubergineroom internet & gaming centre in Crowthorne. Taking part in a league running until the October half-term holiday, young people have been challenging each other in a battle of wits and skill.
Playing the popular, fast-paced action game Counter Strike: Source, the players have been battling for supremacy on the powerful computers available at theaubergineroom Internet café and gaming centre, based in Crowthorne, Berkshire.
Instead of just competing for kudos or a trophy, however, the players are fighting it out for a cash prize of £100. Each time a player makes a ‘kill’ in the game, they get a virtual lottery ticket. At the end of the league, a ticket is drawn at random to choose the winner of the top prize.
After each fixture, results, photos, and commentary are posted up on theaubergineroom’s website, allowing contestants to comment on the matches.
“Previously, skilled players received little recognition, unless they had the money to take part in large tournaments running over a weekend.” said Managing Director Tom Kranz. “By running a league over two months, it means that players can take part when it suits them, giving more people a chance to take part.”
“By choosing a lottery format for the competition, we ensure that even casual players can have some fun and be in with a chance of winning.” explains James Daneri, Tournaments Co-ordinator for theaubergineroom. “We wanted to offer a cash prize because talented players can invest a lot of time and effort in honing their skills, and we feel that that hard work should be rewarded.”
