Conival plc: Tesco Listings for New Product from SPARKY BRAND

Launch of Wild Acai superfruit juice.

(PRWEB) September 22, 2006 -- Conival (AIM: CVL) announces that it has secured listings in 180 Tesco stores from 16 October for its new superfruit juice drink, the Acai and Mango juice, in 1 ltr packs. The new juice is extracted from the wild Acai berry, which is harvested in South America, is believed to hold the highest level of antioxidants of any fruit.

The new juice is the latest in the SPARKY BRAND™ Omega 3 range. Pomegranate in Apple Juice is already listed in 200 Tesco stores and 291 Sainsbury stores around the UK. The Cranberry, Raspberry and Blueberry in Grape Juice with Omega 3 was launched in Sainsbury’s stores from May of this year.

Commenting, Jeremy Schwartz, CEO of Conival plc, said:

“We continue to address consumer demand for not-from-concentrate “super juices” and have decided to continue with the expansion of our super fruits range following the success of the Pomegranate in Apple Juice in both Sainsbury and Tesco. We have ceased to supply to Waitrose where it was trialed across 40 stores. I believe that our new Acai and Mango product is a good indication of how we continue to bring innovative products into this segment of the market.”

SPARKY BRAND™ has also recently undergone a new packaging design that has been tested in a research study and the results showed an increase in positive purchase intent. The SPARKY BRAND™ range has been developed to create a range of ‘super juice’ products incorporating Omega 3, whose significant health benefits are becoming increasingly recognised. Each product is free from additives or preservatives, with at least 20% of the recommended daily intake (RDI) of long chain Omega 3 DHA/EPA per serving of 250ml.

Andrew Regan’s investment company Corvus Capital Inc currently owns 33.14 per cent of the issued ordinary share capital of Conival plc.

Notes to Editors:

Acai berry - The Acai Palm yields the Acai berry which has many uses in South American culture from food to oil to cooking and the actual Acai berry is also used for its medicinal properties. The berry contains the highest amount of anthocyannins, the purple antioxidant pigments, of any fruit.

Omega 3 - “Omega 3 has been shown to have a profound role in brain development and function. It has been shown to reduce the risk of sudden death from heart attack. It may also help forms of mental illness and stiff joints”, Professor Michael Crawford PhD, Cbiol, FIBol, FRCPath, Director of the Institute of Brain Chemistry and Human Nutrition, London Metropolitan University.

  • Omega 3 is a very long and flexible molecule that is the building block to brain cell walls and lubricates arteries and joints
  • The technical name is polyunsaturated fatty acids and it’s an essential nutrient, necessary as part of a balanced diet
  • The best form of Omega 3 are long chain DHA/EPA which you can get from oily fish
  • The not so effective form of Omega 3 are short chain ALA which come from linseeds and rapeseed
  • Your body can’t produce long chain Omega 3, you have to eat it
