Australian Bicycle Design Makes History
An Australian-designed bicycle has finally solved the problem of bicycle "seat-soreness," being the first bicycle in history to be designed from the seat first. The new bicycle is being launched at this week's Interbike Show in Las Vegas.
Las Vegas, NV (PRWEB) September 26, 2006 -- Interbike, the world's biggest Bicycle Retailer trade show, being held at the Sands Convention Centre in Las Vegas this week (27-29 Sept) features the global launch of the first bicycle in history to be designed from the seat first, to remove the age-old problem of seat-soreness and make pedaling easier.
Bicycle sales around the globe exceed 100 million units each year, but the seat-soreness problem has existed for over a century and is still the greatest deterrent to people riding bicycles. It remains the biggest hurdle for governments around the world trying to get more people to ride bicycles and help save the environment, avoid traffic meltdown and improve levels of national fitness.
"Not any more," says Peter Clutton, Australian designer of the Stylyx 'Lifestyle' bicycle and bikeseat. "At first, we made the same mistake as many other designers, believing we could remove the unhealthy pressure and chafing just by having an ergonomically-shaped seat with no pommel, but we then found there was no bicycle in existence able to finely position each rider to take full advantage of the new seat's supporting shape."
Clutton goes on, "It was 'back to the drawing board' to develop new technology in the seatpost and frame geometry so each rider could be perfectly positioned to suit his or her personal physique and be located on the seat in a very exact position, to take full advantage of the seat's supporting shape."
The bicycle's new frame geometry has also made pedaling easier and more energy-efficient, so Stylyx expects to lead a whole new era in "easy riding" bicycles that will bring millions of people back-to-biking.
