Child’s Play Teams Up with School Representatives to Improve on Fundraising Efforts in Local Schools

Child’s Play, a Children’s Activity and Enrichment Center in Los Angeles, will be hosting a free fundraising seminar for local Los Angeles school officials in response to the new law that will grant Mayor Villaraigosa more influence on public schools in Los Angeles.

Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) September 27, 2006 -- On October 12, 2006 at 6 PM, Children’s Activity and Enrichment Center Child’s Play will be offering schools a fundraising seminar and event to support local schools in Los Angeles. The planned fundraising event was created in response to the newest law signed by Governor Schwarzenegger and Mayor Villaraigosa which will take effect on January 1, 2007. According to the Los Angeles Times, the new law allows Mayor Villaraigosa more clout within Los Angeles public schools. Local community members have their doubts as to whether or not the shift in power will affect positive change for school funding.

In response to the approved shift of responsibility for Los Angeles schools going from a state level to a city level, business owner and working mother Jeannine McGregor has her doubts that more money will be allocated to public schools. "Fundraising is the only option that a lot of the local schools have when it comes to raising money for schools. We’ve been looking to politicians to solve our school funding problems and they haven’t come through for us so far. Instead, we will be helping schools help themselves by teaming up with them in fundraising efforts.”

Jeannine McGregor’s company Child’s Play Children’s Activity and Enrichment Center has organized a fundraising activity and fundraising seminar for local community members which is scheduled for October 12, 2006 at 6 p.m. “The biggest thing for us is to create a dialogue within the community about fundraising and to help one another out with creating ways to increase funding for schools,” comments Child’s Play Staff Member Randi Taylor.

The staff at Child’s Play came up with the idea for a fundraising seminar after being asked to host several fundraisers for local schools. “Child’s Play is a popular fundraising venue and has had several of them including a Parents Night Out fundraiser and School Dance Party Fundraiser," comments Child’s Play owner Jeannine McGregor. In order to reach even more school representatives, they invited schools to participate in a seminar and brainstorm meeting specifically geared towards fundraising. In conducting the event in a neutral venue such as a children’s center, Child’s Play hopes to consolidate and improve upon competing schools’ fundraising efforts.

In addition to the money earned by the schools at the October 12th fundraiser, Child's Play will provide a $50 donation to participating schools. Child’s Play’s fundraiser and fundraising seminar will be conducted by Child’s Play staff members Randi Taylor and Jeannine McGregor. Staff members will provide information on how to organize effective fundraising events and programs. At the conclusion of the seminar, Child’s Play staff will encourage a dialogue among several school representatives pertaining to the topic of school funding.

While the seminar is being conducted parents are invited to have their child participate in a fundraising open play date session that begins at 6 PM on October 12, 2006. For an $8 admission fee, a child will be allowed to participate in crafts, play games on a moon bounce and air hockey table, exercise on the indoor play structure and be entertained by a character dressed as “Dora the Explorer.” The participating schools will receive 50% of the price of admission that is received by children affiliated with their participating school.
