Online Divorce is Seven Years Old This Week

Divorce-Online, the company that dealt with the UK’s first internet divorce is officially seven years old this week.

(PRWEB) September 28, 2006 -- Divorce-Online, the company that dealt with the UK's first Internet divorce is officially seven years old this week.

The idea for the innovative website came to the founder and Legal Director, Mark Keenan whilst he was working for a Solicitors in Swindon, Wiltshire

"I used to get a lot of middle-income people coming in for us to do their divorce, but they simply could not afford the fees we were charging, even though it had all been agreed and was amicable."

He then set about setting up a website www.divorce-online.co.uk to help people do their own divorces. The first version was very basic and was designed by a teenager he had met on a computer skills course.

He could not believe that no one else was doing it when he bought the domain name for the service.

In September 2000 the website received an unprecedented amount of media interest from around the world when Paul Wilmott became the 1st person to obtain an online divorce. Paul has since remarried and is very happy with his second wife.

From those humble beginnings the company has grown from a one-man band to a 6-employee enterprise with offices in Swindon and has helped more than 35,000 couples achieve an amicable and inexpensive divorce.

The secret of their success can be put down to three things. The use of the Internet and related technologies to create the documents used by the clients, clever use of outsourcing and most of all providing an excellent service.

The company has achieved double figure growth each and every year of operation and can see no reason why this should not continue into the future.

Divorce-Online processes about 3% of all petitions filed in the UK divorce courts.

Mark believes that the changes being brought in by the Government to Legal Services, known as "Tesco Law" in 2007 will be beneficial to the company as they continue to expand from the Internet on to the high street.

His long-term vision is to have a branded law shop on every high street, where the public can get access to straightforward, fixed fee legal services. The changes in the way legal services are delivered will allow entrepreneurs like him to set up law firms and employ lawyers directly.

Note for editors:
Divorce-Online is the UK's leading uncontested divorce provider and has been providing services to the UK consumer since 1999 and has saved the UK consumer millions of pounds in Solicitors fees.
