Online Tool Identifies Similarities Among US Cities and Towns

Journalists, bloggers, real estate professionals, municipal officials and others can now find similar communities without doing any research.

Marlborough, MA (PRWEB) September 27, 2006 -- CityTownInfo.com has released PlaceMatch™, a free, Internet-accessible tool that lets people easily find places that are similar to almost any selected US city or town, without any prior knowledge of statistics or any technical skills.

To use PlaceMatch, a visitor browses to the city or town in which they are interested, and the web page lists similar places, according to pre-defined place-matching criteria. Visitors can also choose to modify the place-matching criteria using simple browser controls, to produce a customized list of cities and towns that are similar based on desired characteristics. This lets people construct various kinds of comparisons, e.g. emphasizing population demographics, property and real estate data, sprawl and commuting statistics, wealth, crime, and educational levels, among others.

Each city or town listed in the results is accompanied by a detailed profile that can be reached with a single click. CityTownInfo.com offers free detailed statistical and comparative profiles of every US city and town.

With PlaceMatch, people can quickly understand the nature of a place they have heard of, by seeing which other cities and towns are listed as similar to it. This is a great help to people considering relocating for a new job, for instance.

PlaceMatch is designed to let bloggers and webmasters point their online readers to the customized results that they created, since each place-matching scenario, customized or not, can be linked to using its URL, which encodes the matching criteria.

Each of CityTownInfo.com’s 20,000+ city/town information pages (for cities and towns with at least 1,000 residents) has a link to its PlaceMatch page, or you can start here to access PlaceMatch directly.

Moving Traffic will be featuring PlaceMatch, and providing examples of its use on a regular basis on the CityTownInfo blog.
