Monday, October 2, 2006 - 7:30 PM | Egyptian Theatre
The Monday, October 2nd program is a 8:00 PM screening of Following (1998, Zeitgeist, 70 min.), directed by Christopher Nolan. Bill (Jeremy Theobald) , the unlikely hero, is a marginalized, but intriguing everday man who follows strangers at random on the streets of London. When Cobb (Alex Haw) a man Bill has been following catches him in the act, Bill is drawn into Cobb's own voyeuristic world. With an ingenious structure that features flashforwards and doubling back, the film tests our knowledge and understanding as the protagonist is being duped into an elaborate triple-cross. With Lucy Russell. Winner of the Tiger Award at the 1999 Rotterdam International Film Festival. Discussion following with director Christopher Nolan and producer Emma Thomas moderated by executive producer and leading film consultant Peter Broderick.
The No Budget Film Club
No Budget Film Club is a new, ongoing screening series launched as part of a continuing education initiative of No Budget Film School, a unique series of film classes designed specifically for no-budget filmmakers. No Budget Film School (http://www.NoBudgetFilmSchool.com) was founded in 2005 by producer Mark Stolaroff, formerly a principal of IFC's low-budget finishing funds company, Next Wave Films. No Budget Film Club was created to further serve the educational needs of emerging no-budget filmmakers, and also to help develop audiences for exceptional no-budget films. In addition to the screening of the no-budget feature, the evenings will always include candid, "off the record" discussions with the filmmakers, where all the secrets of how these films were literally "willed into the can" will be revealed. Often, the stories of the making of these films are as entertaining as the films themselves. Audience will also be given the opportunity to discover the unique elements these special films excel in, qualities that today's studio films so often fail to offer. The No Budget Film Club series will include both features by now well-known filmmakers, as well as rare, hard-to-find films by talented but lesser-known filmmakers, many unavailable on DVD. No Budget Film Club members receive a special Film Club Member ticket price to all Club screenings. Tickets for the "Following" screening are just $6 to Film Club members ($4 off the regular ticket price). For more information and to join: http://www.NoBudgetFilmClub.com/
