Strel’s desire to highlight the increasing destruction and depletion of the Amazon rainforest will, as he says, “see me through the dark days and arduous hours in the final stages of an endeavor that has never even been attempted by anyone else.”
Although the region harbors many unpredictable threats to life and limb, Strel feels the biggest danger may come from the human inhabitants of the river and surrounding jungle: the poachers, pirates, unfriendly natives, illegal hunters etc. With this in mind he has arranged to be accompanied by a security team made up of members of the Brazilian army.
ASMG, Strel’s management team is currently seeking like minded sponsors who want to be part of a unique and powerful testament to man’s will to survive, as well as protect help the world’s largest contributor to our environmental well-being.
ASMG’s marketing strategy is to partner with an ad agency, a small number of corporate sponsors, and a TV or cable network, with the goal of creating a branded entertainment project in the form of a docu-reality episodic series that would be shot on location as the swim progresses down the river.
They are also developing an undergraduate medical research program, and an environmental educational program for grade school children, to run in conjunction with the event.
Interest in Martin Strel is very high, on his last 2 swims, a total of 80 million visitors came to his website, just on word of mouth and minimal media exposure.
