A Record 3 Million People Take Online World's Smallest Political Quiz, Seeking Ideological Clarity Before November Elections

(PRWEB) September 29, 2006 -- More than 3 million people have taken the online World's Smallest Political Quiz so far this year -- suggesting that vast numbers of voters are ideologically perplexed as they head into the November elections.
Since January, record numbers of people -- as many as 20,000 a day -- have taken the Quiz at www.TheAdvocates.org/quiz.html. The interactive Quiz instantly pinpoints a person's ideological identity.
"In this era of fuzzy political labels, partisan bickering, and hard-to-pin-down politicians, voters seem to be in a state of ideological confusion," said Sharon Harris, president of the Advocates for Self-Government, the nonpartisan organization that sponsors the Quiz.
"More Americans are asking fundamental questions: What do I really believe in? What are my ideological options? Who else agrees with me? These are questions voters ask when they are examining their political beliefs at a core level."
Already, three times as many people have taken the World's Smallest Political Quiz this year as did in 2005. Since the Quiz went online in 1995, it has been taken 8 million times.
The Quiz asks 10 short questions about personal and economic issues. Based on the answers, it pinpoints a person's political affiliation as a conservative, liberal, centrist, libertarian, or statist.
The Quiz has earned praise as the Internet's most accurate ideological quiz. The Washington Post reported, "The Quiz has gained respect as a valid measure of a person's political leanings."
The Quiz has been used at 420+ colleges and high schools, and is cited in 14 textbooks and online supplemental materials. More than 13,400 Web sites link to it.
"The World's Smallest Political Quiz has become the Internet's go-to resource for people seeking to understand their own political beliefs and demanding straightforward information about what ideological labels really mean," said Harris.
Unlike many political surveys, the Quiz doesn't tell people who to vote for, or match them with a particular candidate, noted Harris.
"The World's Smallest Political Quiz is a compass, not a roadmap," she said. "But it does help people understand their own ideological orientation, which allows them to cast a more knowledgeable vote in line with their core beliefs. That makes it a valuable tool for undecided voters -- and for voters in a state of ideological confusion."
