Initiative Unveils Part Two: Just Say “Know” to Prescription Drugs for Children

Emmy winning director joins campaign to get one million parents to ask, ”What am I really putting into my child’s body?”

New York, New York (PRWEB) September 27, 2006 -- The Just Say “Know” to Prescription Drugs Campaign, aimed at getting one million people to stop and reevaluate the medications they are taking, today unveiled part two of the initiative aimed at parents who have their children on prescription medications. Dr. Dominick Riccio announced that Emmy winning producer/director Robert Manciero has joined the campaign and will be making his prescription drug awareness documentary “Prescription: Suicide?” available to the campaign as an educational tool. The documentary takes an intimate look at six distinct stories of real people who simply did not know or adequately understood the risks of the medications they had consented to give their children. The stories are dramatic, tragic, compelling and powerfully drive home the central message of the Just Say Know to Prescription Drugs for Children Campaign.

"This isn't a story about money or big pharmaceutical corporations," says director Robert Manciero, "It's a story about tragedies in individual families like you and me and our kids."

The Just Say “Know” Campaign hopes that through the experiences of these six families, parents will get a genuine sense of how critical it is to know and understand the drugs prescribed, before consenting to put their children on the medications. “Perhaps the most profound responsibility any of us can take on is the responsibility for another life. When that life belongs to one of our children, the impact of making uninformed decisions is even more profound,” said Dr. Riccio, Chairman of the Just Say Know to Prescription Drugs Campaign.

During the month of October, the initiative aims to get one million parents to take a second look at the prescription medications they are giving their children. Parents will be encouraged to download a form that allows them to thoughtfully evaluate the drugs they are consenting to give to their child. The form collects specific information from their prescribing physician, pharmacist or healthcare provider and requests the provider’s signature attesting that they have fully informed the parent of the risks and benefits of the prescribed medication, as well as non-drug alternatives.

The campaign has declared October "Just Say Know to Prescription Drugs Month" and has scheduled a conference in Washington, D.C. on October 7th to officially launch the campaign. Robert Manciero will be present at the conference and the documentary “Prescription: Suicide?” will be shown at the event. Information about the conference is available at http://www.icspp.org a preview of the documentary can be downloaded at http://www.prescriptionsuicide.com/

“We are delighted to have Robert Manciero join our campaign,” said Dr. Greg Tefft, co-founder of the initiative. “His work puts a personal face on the message we are trying to deliver and underscores why a campaign like Just Say “Know” to Prescription Drugs is desperately needed,” said Tefft.

Organizations and individuals who want to participate in the campaign may go to any of the following websites, look for the Just Say Know to Prescription Drugs logo, and download the sheet titled "Take This Form and Sign It." Instructions will be provided on each form.
