Threads of Honor: The True Story of a Boy Scout Troop, Perseverance, Triumph, and an American Flag by Gordon Ryan
The story of The amazing American flag that survived the Challenger explosion.
Denver, CO (PRWEB) January 1, 2006 -- The Challenger shuttle disaster still holds the all-time news interest record for the United States (source: The Pew Research Center). Scoutmaster Bill Tolbert and his Boy Scout Troop had a special interest on that day of the Challenger explosion: Their troop American flag was on board. They had hoped to watch it fly into space only to see it, along with their shuttle and its courageous crew, blown away and lost forever—or so they thought.
The amazing part of this story is that, nine months later, this flag was recovered, intact and completely unscathed, from the Challenger wreckage at the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean. The flag was returned to the troop, and the troop and their flag were honored at the Constitution Bicentennial celebration in Philadelphia the following year.
January 28, 2006 marks the twentieth anniversary of the Challenger disaster. What more fitting way to remember the brave astronauts who perished in service to their country than to recognize the amazing American flag that accompanied their final mission.
This is a story with tremendous appeal to all Americans. The Boox Review said this book is "Infectious inspiration for the Yankee Doodle Dandy in every American." Midwest Book Review called it, “Inspired reading!” Boys’ Life said, “Threads of Honor is guaranteed to give you goose bumps.” Former astronaut Guy Bluford, the first African American astronaut, said, “This is an inspiring story that makes me proud to have been an astronaut, proud to be an American, and proud to be an Eagle Scout.” Written by novelist Gordon Ryan, and featuring an extensive appendix of information about the American flag, this is a truly uplifting story of patriotism and of triumph over adversity.
Veteran talk show host Elliott Irving of WFLO radio in Richmond, VA, said, “Bill Tolbert is one of my all-time favorite show guests and this is the only book I’ve read that I believe should be in every private and public library across America.”
