Emmy-Nominated PBS Series "Ask This Old House" Features a Radon House Call

The American Association of Radon Scientists and Technologists (AARST) is thanking the producers of Ask This Old House for creating a segment on radon mitigation and releasing it to public television affiliates nationwide in time for USEPA’s Radon Action Month.

(PRWEB) January 9, 2006 -- The American Association of Radon Scientists and Technologists (AARST) is thanking the producers of Ask This Old House for creating a segment on radon mitigation and releasing it to public television affiliates nationwide in time for USEPA’s Radon Action Month.

The episode includes a House call in Minneapolis, Minnesota to install a radon mitigation system that reduces the level of radon gas to safe levels within the home. Radon is a naturally occurring radioactive gas defined by the USEPA as a Class A carcinogen. Upon entering some homes through the foundation, it can rise to dangerous levels for occupants. Radon exposure is responsible for an estimated 21,000 lung cancer deaths annually.

AARST thanks the cast, crew and producers of Ask This Old House
“AARST thanks the cast, crew and producers of Ask This Old House,” said AARST President David Hill, “for tackling a serious environmental health issue while showing that the solution is well within the means and control of most homeowners to solve.”

On January 4th, the day before the episode premieres in a number of markets across the country, USEPA’s Indoor Air and Radiation Director Elizabeth Cotsworth and AARST President-Elect William Angell visited the home where the series taped the installation. The visit included Minnesota officials and other non-profit organizations as part of a day long series of events recognizing the achievements of public private partnerships in the USEPA’s Radon Program.

Host Kevin O’Connor, general contractor Tom Silva, plumbing and heating expert Richard Trethewey, and landscape contractor Roger Cook each week tackle new adventures in home repair for the fourth season of the Emmy-nominated Ask This Old House. Twenty-six all-new episodes premiere exclusively on PBS Thursdays at 8pm ET (check local listings). In Minnesota, episode 414 will air on TPT Thursday January 12, 2006 in the second half of The This Old House Hour at 7pm. Episode 414 was taped in September 2005.

Ask This Old House is produced by This Old House Productions, Inc. for This Old House Ventures, Inc. and presented on PBS by WGBH Boston. Executive producer is Bruce Irving, senior producer and director is David Vos, and producer is Chris Dick. Series founder is Russell Morash. Funding is provided by GMC, The Home Depot, and Schlage.
