A New Medical Protocol Offers Hope to People Trapped in Methadone Maintenance

A new medical protocol has been developed to treat methadone dependency. This new protocol referred to as “Rapid Receptor TransitionTM (RRT)” it allows individuals to seek alternatives to methadone maintenance for treating their opiate dependency.

(PRWEB) January 16, 2006 -- People from various walks of life, such as business executives, professional athletes, celebrities, politicians, and even the armed forces and the religious world are flocking to Palm Beach from different parts of the globe, and not necessarily to enjoy the spectacular beaches, but rather to save their lives. They are coming to break harmful dependencies to a variety of addictive substances-- medical conditions which until recently were considered taboo to such people.

One severe addiction that is often overlooked is methadone addiction. Methadone is a drug which is prescribed to individuals who were previously addicted to opiate based drugs such as heroin, oxycontin, and oxycodone. Methadone is prescribed and usually taken daily at a clinic or, more rarely, prescribed in pill form to be taken each day. This daily ritual is often referred to as “methadone maintenance”. It is quite simply, a trade of an illegal drug addiction to a legal and regulated drug addiction.

I felt I had no where to turn. I wasn’t your everyday addict, I had a great job and an outwardly successful life. However, my addiction to Oxycontin then my subsequent methadone problem was destroying me. Poinciana’s program got me my life back.
Methadone can be extremely difficult to kick and often leads to continued use of opiates and other drugs to ease the painful withdrawal that stopping methadone causes. Methadone should never be stopped abruptly or quit without the advice of a physician.

People looking for a solution to methadone maintenance programs have had little alternatives until now. Poinciana at Palm Beach, an executive detox center located in West Palm Beach Florida is utilizing a new and unique medical program to safely detox methadone addicted patients. This new protocol referred to as “Rapid Receptor TransitionTM (RRT)”.

Poinciana’s physician Dr. Agresti explains: “Treatment for Methadone is different than our standard treatment for conventional opiate dependency. Methadone poses additional problems and the course of treatment is longer. But the good news is we can help. Here's how it works. Utilizing a medical protocol called Rapid Receptor TransitionTM (RRT), the doctor will safely and comfortably switch your medications, monitoring your progress daily. After 7 days, when Methadone is out of your system you will be switched over to Buprenorphine. You may return home. Where you can follow up with an outpatient provider who will wean you off the Buprenorphine over the next 4 to 6 weeks. You may go back to work, your studies, or daily chores immediately. You will have energy. You will no longer crave Methadone or opiates.”

This unique program as well as Poinciana’s standard alcohol detox and drug detox methods attracts all types of people to the facility.
A former patient states: “I felt I had no where to turn. I wasn’t your everyday addict, I had a great job and an outwardly successful life. However, my addiction to Oxycontin then my subsequent methadone problem was destroying me. Poinciana’s program got me my life back.”
