Entity FX Nominated for Outstanding Visual Effects

The Visual Effects Society (VES), the effects industry's preeminent professional organization, has announced the nominees for their annual VES Awards, which recognize outstanding achievements in the field of visual effects and animation. Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) January 13, 2006 -- The Visual Effects Society (VES), the effects industry's preeminent professional organization, has announced the nominees for their annual VES Awards, which recognize outstanding achievements in the field of visual effects and animation. Santa Monica-based Entity FX garnered a coveted nomination for "Outstanding Visual Effects in a Broadcast Series" for their work on Smallville, the WB series about Superman's teenage years.

This is the fifth nomination that Entity’s work has received from the VES in three years. Two have resulted in awards. In 2004, Entity FX won the VES award for "Outstanding Compositing in a Televised Program, Music Video or Commercial" and for "Outstanding Matte Painting in a Televised Program, Music Video or Commercial".

As can be expected from a show about Superman, Smallville is an ambitious series, with a wide variety of visual effects - and a lot of them. "Commencement," the episode highlighted by the VES for nomination, contains a staggering 117 completely synthetic or digitally enhanced shots.

In it, audiences were wowed as they watched a cluster of meteors, remnants of an exploding asteroid, impacting the moon and then speeding on a firey course towards Clark Kent's home town of Smallville. As the meteorites rain down destruction, Clark races to save the people of his town. From a dramatic helicopter crash to Clark's sudden transportation to an Arctic snowfield, the episode is a vivid example of Entity's broad ranging work on the show as a whole.

Visual Effects Producer Trent Smith, nominated along with VFX Supervisor/Producer Mat Beck, ASC, Visual Effects Set Supervisor John Wash, and Lead 3D Artist John Han, is grateful for the nod. "A lot of uniquely talented artists worked – sometimes around the clock – to deliver visually stunning shots. I'm proud of everyone's strong commitment to this show and of what they've put on the screen. It's gratifiying that their efforts are recognized in this way."

Nominees for the Visual Effects Awards will be voted on by the general membership between January 25 and February 12, 2006. The Visual Effects Awards gala will be held on February 15, 2006 at the Hollywood Palladium.

Entity FX is a high-end post-production facility that specializes in world class Visual Effects and Animation. Recently completed projects include a suite of season launching promos for the NHL, a breast cancer awareness spot for Avon, ABC's NightStalker (recently acquired by the SciFi Channel), the pilot for WB's Supernatural, and photorealistic CG crowds and NASCAR race shots for Disney's summer blockbuster Herbie: Fully Loaded. Current work this year includes the fifth season of Smallville, the pilot episode for WB's Aquaman, a motion capture / CGI martial arts project for National Geographic, and, in features, work on Universal's Miami Vice and New Line's Scary Movie 4.
