The Mejugorge Deception: Queen of Peace, Ethnic Cleansing, Ruined Lives exposes the crisis in the Catholic Church that has arisen due to false seers, renegade clergy, and unscrupulous promoters of the Medjugorje phenomena. Two different local Bishops in succession over a 22-year period, and a unanimous vote by a special Yugoslavian Bishops Conference have explicitly condemned the seers, and the messages of Medjugorje. The first official condemnation came from the local Bishop, Zanic, in 1985. At that time, Bishop Zanic began to work tirelessly to discourage the promotion of those messages. In 1987 he issued an internationally published paper explaining his reasons for condemning these messages. Bishop Zanic's prohibition was universally ignored by promoters everywhere. The Bishop then explicitly canonically suspended the sacramental faculties of any priest who might attempt to exercise his priestly faculty within the Diocese of Mostar in association with the Medjugorje occurrences. Still, hundreds of priests, and millions of pilgrims continued to come forward to publicly disobey him.

Msgr. Ratko Peric Bishop of Mostar has stated:

"There are many disorders there. There are Franciscan priests there with no canonical mission; religious communities have been established without the permission of the diocesan bishop, ecclesiastical buildings have been erected without ecclesiastical approval, parishes are encouraged to organize official pilgrimages, etc. Medjugorje, considered as a location of presumed apparitions, does not promote peace and unity but creates confusion and division, and not simply in its own diocese. I stated this in October 1994 at the Synod of Bishops and in the presence of the Holy Father, and I repeat it today with the same responsibility."
