The New York Minute Film Festival Goes Back to School

CONVERGENCE launches an online film festival just for kids

New York, NY (PRWEB) January 30, 2006 -- CONVERGENCE, the award-winning Manhattan-based visual media company that founded the New York Minute Film Festival, has launched the J.A.M. Film Festival, a new online film festival exclusively for students in high school and younger.

The J.A.M. (Just A Minute) Film Festival (www.JamFilmFestival.com) gives students a new outlet for their creativity with an opportunity to share their work with a global audience through the Internet. As they compete for recognition and prizes, the festival provides a forum where students around the world can share their cultures and viewpoints through the magic of film. The festival opened for entries on January 2, 2006 and will accept submissions until June 15, 2006.

The response to the New York Minute Film Festival was terrific – 125 films from 16 different countries in our first year
Films of exactly one minute will compete in two categories: ’Genius’ for high school students and ‘Prodigy’ for elementary and middle school students. There is no cost to enter a film in the festival and all students throughout the world will be eligible to vote online for their favorite films to determine which entries will become the ten finalists in each category. Online voting will take place from June 16 through August 1, 2006 after which a panel of film professionals and celebrities will select the Grand Prize winners.

MOUSE (www.mouse.org), an international non-profit that brings technology and training to inner-city public schools, has been instrumental in the creation of this innovative new festival. The New York Minute Film Festival (www.nymff.com) had chosen MOUSE to be its nonprofit beneficiary and the relationship continues to grow with The J.A.M. Film Festival. “We at MOUSE have witnessed first hand how introducing a child to new experiences or career options can have a tremendous impact on their lives,” said Carole Wacey, Executive Director of MOUSE. “The exciting thing about this festival is that it has the potential to open up a whole new world of opportunities for kids.”

“The response to the New York Minute Film Festival was terrific – 125 films from 16 different countries in our first year,” said Jeff Cahn, a managing partner at CONVERGENCE (www.convergenceny.com), “but we didn’t expect so many excellent films from students in high school and younger. The inspiration for J.A.M. came from these kids.”
