HMC Launches HMCwiki™

The Healthcare Management Council, Inc. has created a new, free, online healthcare performance improvement service called the HMCwiki™. HMCwiki™ allows hospital managers and executives to collaborate on lowering healthcare costs across the healthcare industry.

Needham, MA (PRWEB) January 29, 2006 -- The Healthcare Management Council, Inc. (HMC), a non-traditional benchmarking firm that fosters collaboration in hospital performance management announces its HMCwiki™ site (http://wiki.hmccentral.com). The objective of HMCwiki™ is to support industry-wide collaboration around performance improvement opportunities. Both hospital executives and department managers can now access information similar to the HMC knowledge database to make contributions to or learn from the articles on healthcare performance improvement. Wiki technology, like the famous Wikipedia on-line resource, supports open collaboration in a very exciting and new way. Once HMCWiki™ is accessed, managers can collaborate with other hospitals that are facing similar industry-wide performance improvement issues.

Collaboration has been the hallmark of HMC expertise, currently housed in a repository for process improvement successes and good ideas between hospitals exclusively to HMC subscribers. Building these collaborative relationships requires expertise in facilitating idea generation and populating a knowledge database. HMCWiki™ provides access to the collaborative expertise of HMC, built on the Wikipedia platform, by anyone with access to a web browser, via wiki.hmccentral.com for non-HMC Partners. Subscribers to the HMC Partnership can now access HMCwiki™ through their personalized HMC portal.

HMCwiki™ is part of a suite of HMC tools to simplify the generation of ideas (Idea Trees™), creation of action plans (Action Plan Developer™) and the measurement and communication of results (Trackers™ and the Digital Dashboard™). Both department managers and hospital executives use these tools to monitor action plans that focus on key strategic initiatives. Together they give a hospital a more complete view of current performance improvement efforts, and where performance is headed.

Partners of HMC share acute hospital financial and practice information. Hospitals then use the HMC suite of products to support hospital managers in the project development phase and to move managers to action that will yield measurable results.

HMC President Tom Day says, “HMC has been in the business of collecting healthcare operations knowledge for years and we’re pushing the boundaries of collaboration all the time. The introduction of HMCwiki™ is a continuation of our mission to make knowledge access and the process of collaborating ‘friction-free’. Open collaboration vehicles, such as wiki technology, are important trends and we’re harnessing them in an open way. We’re all about supporting hospitals in moving along the performance improvement path.”
